This Saturday, February 15, the city of Porto saw the departure of one of its most illustrious personalities: Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who was president of FC Porto for 42 years. The funeral will take place this Monday, February 17, starting at 11 a.m., with traffic restrictions planned.
According to RTP, the funeral procession will leave from the Antas Church and pass by the Estádio do Dragão, where several fans and club figures have paid tribute to the former Porto manager. Afterwards, the funeral will proceed to the Prado do Repouso cemetery, where the body will be cremated.
Traffic restrictions
According to the same source, a large turnout is expected for Pinto da Costa’s funeral, so there will be traffic restrictions in the nearby streets.
Asked by Lusa about the authorities’ plans, a source from the Porto Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), quoted by various media, said:
There will continue to be cuts on Rua Bartolomeu Dias with Rua de Naulila and Praça do Doutor Francisco Sá Carneiro, on Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra with Rua Bartolomeu Dias and on Avenida de Fernão Magalhães with Rua de Santo António das Antas.”
Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa died at the age of 87, after a long battle with prostate cancer, leaving behind a legacy of more than 2,590 titles won by FC Porto in 21 different sports.
