Não é fácil descrever o breaking em palavras, pois o nível de exigência para a sua prática e o ambiente envolvente transcendem o mundo do Desporto. Entre os dias 1 e 4 de setembro, a The World Battle mostrou-nos o melhor da cultura e dos ritmos urbanos, com mais de 500 b-boys e b-girls de mais de 50 nacionalidades, que vieram ao Porto dançar por um ‘lugar ao sol’.
O evento contou com battles individuais e coletivas, mas também outras atividades, como workshops, festas e demonstrações de rua. Nesta verdadeira celebração da arte urbana, estiveram envolvidos vários espaços da cidade, destacando-se o Coliseu Porto Ageas — palco da grande final, no passado domingo (4 de setembro).

Os vencedores da edição de 2022
Na final, no Coliseu Porto Ageas, houve competição e aqui, a par da elevada exigência física, os b-boys e b-girls tiveram que enfrentar outro desafio, ou seja a arte de (bem) improvisar. Afinal, os atletas nem as músicas escolhidas pelos dj ‘s sabiam de antemão.
Com alguns dos melhores profissionais do mundo no lugar de jurados, os b-boys e b-girls esforçaram-se ao máximo para surpreender e ganhar. No final, os vencedores foram os seguintes:
- Gera, Rússia (1 vs 1 Kids);
- Nord Diamond, Rússia (1 vs 1 b-boy);
- 671, China (1 vs 1 b-girl);
- All For One, Rússia (5 vs 5 crew);
- The Beasts, Portugal (Top Styles).
Um olhar sobre a The World Battle
Atualmente, a The World Battle é considerada uma das maiores competições de breaking do mundo. Afinal, participaram mais de 500 b-boys e b-girls de mais de 50 nacionalidades diferentes. O evento contou ainda com a presença de 30 atletas portugueses. Mas, nem sempre foi assim.
À conversa com o Porto Secreto, Max Oliveira, responsável da organização, explica o seguinte:
É uma transformação muito profunda e muito grande… Quando o evento nasceu, em 2005, chamava-se Eurobattle e contou na sua primeira edição com a participação de três países.”
Entretanto, o evento cresceu e hoje é uma referência para qualquer atleta de breaking de nível mundial. Além disso, a The World Battle envolveu nada mais nada menos do que seis salas de espetáculo do Porto, onde se destacam o MXM Art Center, o Hard Club e o Coliseu Porto Ageas.
The World Battle 2022 em números
Por aqui, adoramos palavras e não propriamente números… Mas, é verdade que um olhar sobre alguns dados ajuda a conferir outra ideia sobre a dimensão de um evento.
Por isso, aqui tens alguns números sobre uma das maiores provas de breaking do mundo:
- Mais de 500 b-boys e b-girls;
- Mais de 50 nacionalidades;
- 30 atletas portugueses;
- 5 categorias a concurso;
- 6 salas de espetáculos;
- 4 dias de evento.
Breaking: o nascer de uma modalidade olímpica
Nos Jogos Olímpicos de Paris’2024, será a estreia do breaking como modalidade olímpica. Este facto representa o cimentar de uma atividade que nasceu no seio dos ritmos urbanos, mas que soube crescer ao ponto de integrar a prova rainha do Desporto mundial.
Apesar de não ser uma competição de qualificação para os Olímpicos, a The World Battle contou com a presença de representantes da World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF), incluindo o secretário-geral da Confederação Olímpica, Sergey Nifontov.
Quem sabe se de futuro a The World Battle pode integrar o percurso de qualificação para os Jogos Olímpicos? Sem resposta por agora, a certeza é só uma: o breaking conquistou o Porto e o mundo, mas também o nosso coração!
