Summer is coming to an end, and there’s no better place to celebrate the change of seasons thanSerralves Park . On September 26 and 27, the Autumn Festival returns for its 16th edition, with free admission and a program featuring around 150 activities, including music, theater, contemporary circus, workshops, and a market featuring local producers.
Over the course of the two days, the Park—especially the Quinta area—will host workshops on traditional crafts such as weaving, felting, and wool spinning, alongside concerts, plays, puppet shows, and contemporary circus performances.
The musical lineup features names such as Arnau Obiols, Stranded Horse, the Adufeiras do Paúl, and the Portuguese Symphonic Band, while the D’es Tro company takes the stage with “POI” on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 12:15 p.m. Ultimately, it’s an excuse to get out of the house, enjoy the fresh air, and discover up close the crafts, animals, and plants that make Serralves such a special place all year round.
A new resident with big ears
Among the new features of this edition is Urtigão, a donkey of the Graciosa breed—named after the Azorean island of the same name—who is less than a year old and recently arrived at Serralves Park.
Urtigão joins a community of 12 animals of different breeds that the Park has been preserving, including birds, cows, and Bordaleira sheep from the Entre Douro e Minho region.
Climate Cycle and More
Now in its 3rd edition, BOIL – Climate Festival returns to the Autumn Festival with initiatives that bring together artists and researchers around a common goal: to make it easier to understand what is happening to the planet’s climate.
Among this year’s offerings is an audio walk composed by pianist Joana Gama, designed specifically to accompany the Treetop Walk route. The program also features contributions from 24 founding municipalities, each bringing a bit of its own traditions and customs to the Park.
