Christmas in Matosinhos once again features an ice stage. From November 14, 2026, to January 10, 2027, MAR Shopping Matosinhos will host “Rapunzel—The Musical on Ice,” a show that combines music, theater, dance, and skating and is billed as the only ice musical in northern Portugal. It is the 13th production that AM Live has created exclusively for this venue.
A tower full of stories
Rapunzel (Ângela Costa) grew up in a tower, raised by Gothel (Mariana Pacheco), who convinced her that the outside world is dangerous. Everything changes when Phill (André Leitão), a rebellious young man with a strong sense of justice, enters her life. The two set off on a journey through the kingdom of fantasy, pursued by Gothel and the Brothers Grimm.
The story is about courage, questioning what is imposed on us, and finding one’s own path. There is also an educational dimension: the show addresses children’s emotional self-regulation—a concept developed and validated with pediatricians—and rekindles a love of reading through the tales of the Brothers Grimm.
On stage, a tower-library serves as a portal to this universe. The stories leap from the books and come to life in a set design filled with colors, lights, textures, and movement, featuring floating lights and moving scenic elements. The original soundtrack blends folk, blues, and soul.
