Lately, Porto has been frequently highlighted across borders for the most varied reasons. However, this time the spotlight is especially on four of the city’s gardens, which have once again been included in the list of the best in the world.
The “Green Flag Award” 2024 renewed the seal of quality and excellence of four gardens and green spaces in Porto. At the same time, it’s worth mentioning that Portugal has eight mentions on this list, all located in the North. Let’s find out which ones they are?
4 of the best gardens in the world
Although they are well known among locals and even tourists, here is a list of gardens that have renewed their “Green Flag Award” seal of quality:
- Palácio de Cristal
- Jardins do Passeio Alegre
- Parque da Cidade do Porto
- Porto Botanical Garden
It should be noted that the first three are managed by Porto City Council, while the last one is the responsibility of the University of Porto.
In addition to these distinctions, it is also worth mentioning that the Passeio Alegre Garden has once again received the Green Heritage Site award, which is given to green spaces with historical characteristics and more.
Other distinctions in Portugal
In all, in Portugal, eight spaces have been distinguished, one more than in 2023. Alongside the gardens in Porto, the other winners were the following:
- Guimarães City Park
- Monte Latito Gardens, in Guimarães
- Adventure Park & Ecological Trail, in Baguim do Monte
- Jardim da Casa do Corim, in the municipality of Maia – new mention.
