In June, the city of Invicta is filled with countless parties and celebrations, or this wouldn’t be the month of São João. However, before that, you can have a lot of fun at another edition of the Primavera Sound Porto festival, from June 12 to 15, in Parque da Cidade.
Considered not only one of the most iconic festivals in Portugal, but also in Europe due to its eclectic style, we decided to put together a ‘survival’ guide. From transportation tips to the list of prohibited objects, as well as concert schedules, here’s everything you need to know.
Table Of Contents
1 – Secure your daily ticket and/or general pass
First of all, the question is:have you already got your daily ticket and/or general pass for the festival? If not, hurry before the tickets run out. At the moment, you can still secure your place via the Fever platform.
We’d like to remind you that daily tickets cost €67.50 and the general pass €162, both of which already include the 10% discount associated with Revolut. But for more information you can consult the official sales app.
Once you’ve got your ticket, remember that you need to present it at the entrance to the venue and exchange it for a wristband , which allows you to enter and leave as many times as you like until 1am.
2 – Plan your visit to Primavera Sound Porto
Now that you’ve made sure you’ve got the main thing, i.e. the daily ticket and/or general pass for the festival, it’s time to plan your visit. After all, with a luxury line-up featuring names such as Charli xcx, Deftones, Beach House, Central Cee and Jamie xx, it’s hard to catch everything.
That’s why we advise you to read this article with the timetables for all the concerts spread over four stages – Porto, Vodafone, Revolut and Super Bock.Doors open at 3:30 p.m. from June 12 to 14. On the last day, June 15, the venue opens at 2pm.
Another important tip that couldn’t be missing from this ‘survival guide’ is access to the festival’s official app, , available for Android and iOS versions. It’s free to download and gives you access to real-time information on any last-minute changes, etc.
3 – What to bring and what not to bring
In order to get the most out of the experience, there are some key aspects to consider, such as what to take (and what should stay at home). For example, comfortable clothes and shoes are essential to begin with .
Another essential item in your ‘survival’ kit is a sweater and/or blanket; this is because the nights in Porto are very ‘cool’, even in June.
Also, stay hydrated. So take an empty or sealed bottle of water (up to 50 cl, without a cap), which you can fill up at various free points around the venue.
If you want to stay in touch and not lose sight of your friends, or even record every moment of your favorite artists’ performances, it’s essential to include a power bank in your backpack.
With regard to objects that are not allowed, here is a brief list so that you don’t get ‘barred’ at the entrance, such as: large suitcases, cans, sprays, helmets, professional photography and video equipment, drones , etc.
Also avoid bringing food and drinks to Primavera Sound Porto, as this is forbidden. To satisfy your hunger, you’ll find plenty of snacks and street food on the grounds.
4 – On the days of the festival: how do I getto the venue?
From June 12 to 15, it’s best to avoid the traffic confusion, so even if you live in the city of Invicta, you have other means of getting to the festival.
From the Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto (STCP) buses with routes designed for the festival to the Metro do Porto, we share tips on how to get to the venue.
Traveling on STCP buses
According to STCP’s officialwebsite, six regular routes will be reinforced to meet the high demand associated with Primavera Sound Porto. And these are the lines to take into account when going to the festival:
- 200 and 203 – end at the Anémona traffic circle (Praça Cidade Salvador)
- 205 – you can get off at the Dr. Afonso Cordeiro stop or
- 500 and 502 – exit at Praça Cidade Salvador; with additional journeys on Saturday afternoon, June 14
- 1M – trips between the Anémona traffic circle and downtown Porto every 15 minutes
When it’s time to return, these are the timetables to remember:
- June 13, 14 and 15: departures between the Anémona traffic circle (Praça Cidade Salvador) and the Aliados, every 10 minutes, from 11:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. On the last day of the festival, June 15, trips start and end earlier, between 8pm and midnight.
- Rotunda da Anémona – Campanhã Intermodal Terminal with departures every 20 minutes, between midnight and 4am.
Getting around on the Porto Metro
The Porto Metro is always an option to take into account for those who appreciate the economic prices of public transport, so the same scenario applies to Primavera Sound Porto.
During the four days of the festival, the circulation service will be reinforced on the Blue Line, withMatosinhos Sul station being the reference point for getting to Porto City Park.
So if you prefer the Metro to the STCP buses, take note:
- On June 12 and 13, the Blue Line (A) will run until 2:30 a.m., with a guaranteed connection to the Yellow (D) and Green (C) lines
- On June 14, the scenario will be identical to the one mentioned above
- On June 15, the Metro do Porto operation will end just after 1am.
Cycling to the festival
Another equally valid alternative is to cycle to Parque da Cidade, as it is accessible by bike lanes and has a Bike Park right at the entrance.
5 – Forget money and embrace technology
Now that you know how to get there, what you can take (or not), it’s essential to highlight the issue of payments. What does this mean?
Well, only electronic payments are acceptedat the venue , whether by MB Way, Apple Pay or Google Pay. In addition, there is no ATM available.
6 – Relax and have as much fun as possible
With all these tips, you have everything you need to enjoy the festival experience in the best possible way.
So relax and enjoy yourself to the full, taking the opportunity to explore Porto’s City Park between concerts, or even walk along the seafront. After all, the Atlantic is just around the corner.
