One day in Porto
At Porto Secreto we’re always looking for the best tips for you, so we decided to take to the streets once again and do this tour. And yes, some of the spots are no secret, while others can be less known. In any case, this is our proposal for you to make the most of one day in Porto.
Start the day with a delicious brunch
Around here, we’re firm fans of a good brunch; and how lucky we are to live in Porto. After all, there’s no shortage of places here with different menus and specialties.
On this tour, and to start the day on a high note, we passed by the Say Cheesecake & Co. Located in Rua do Almada this is a must for any cheesecake fan.
We tried a bit of everything and, of course, there are healthy offerings. However, we are gluttons by nature, so our favorite was the pistachio cheesecake.
Around São Bento Station
After ‘filling our bellies’, we decided to go for a walk. After all, this is one of the best ways to see the city. Although Avenida dos Aliados is under construction, it’s always good to pass by. Well, there are lots of street artists with interesting performances.
Passing through the São Bento Station considered one of the most beautiful in the world, we ended up entering for the thousandth time. Yes, it’s a bit ‘touristy’.
However, we never tire of admiring its beautiful tile art. In fact, if you like tiles then take a look at our themed itinerary.
Rediscovering Porto Cathedral
Sometimes it feels good to be tourists in our own city. So we wanted to take the opportunity to visit Porto’s imposing cathedral up close once again. Do you think it’s worth contemplating this monument.
To enter the Cathedral, you pay nothing. To visit the Cloister and the Chapter House, the price is 3€.
If you have little appetite for history, you can always stop and relax for a while in Terreiro da Sé, enjoy the views and watch a performance. Well, there are a lot of artists out there.
Strolling through medieval streets and alleys
Near Porto Cathedral, we walked through the picturesque streets and medieval alleys that allow us to travel back in time.
Between narrow and winding corners, we passed the Rua das Aldas viewpoint, ‘hidden’ corners and the charismatic Largo da Pena Ventosa.
Crossing the Louis I Bridge, a classic that never disappoints
Crossing the Louis I Bridge is undoubtedly a classic in any itinerary dedicated to Porto, whether it’s for one, two or three days.
Inaugurated in 1886, this impressive engineering masterpiece directly connects the two banks of the douro river from Porto to Gaia.
Nowadays, crossing the Luís I Bridge can be a real adventure, due to the large number of people. However, it ‘s always worth it. This is because the breathtaking panoramic landscape leaves us speechless.
Visit the historic Ferreira cellars
Afterwards, and already on the Gaia side, we took the opportunity to visit the historic Caves Ferreira, where we immersed ourselves in a true journey through time.
For more than an hour, we learned more about the iconic D. Ferreirinha, but also about one of the oldest Port Wine Cellars. In addition, we had the opportunity to learn about the different types of Port wine.
In the end, we had a tasting that left no room for doubt… This is an experience that all of us should enjoy.
Watching a sunset worthy of a movie
To end the day in the best possible way, we stopped at Jardim do Morro, in Vila Nova de Gaiato contemplate a true treasure of nature .
Popcorn in hand, we watched the best of the movies. .. in other words, the colorful spectacle of the sunset over the River Douro. A scene worthy of many records to remember later!
