Porto is full of nooks and crannies that make locals proud and tourists passionate. Monuments, narrow historic streets, viewpoints with breathtaking views, but also green spaces. In fact, Invicta has four gardens on the list of the best in the world.
The “Green Flag Awards”, given by Keep Britain Tidy (a UK non-governmental organization), have once again renewed the seal of quality awarded to four gardens and parks in the city of Porto.
At the same time, it’s worth mentioning that Portugal has a total of eight mentions on the 2025 list – all located in the Northern Region. Shall we find out which ones?

The best gardens in the world in Porto
The spaces distinguished with the “Green Flag Award” seal of quality are no secret to the people of Porto, but it’s important to know which ones were chosen:
- Crystal Palace Gardens
- Passeio Alegre Gardens – home to the iconic toilets full of Art Nouveau tiles, which are now undergoing restoration and conservation work
- Porto City Park
- Porto Botanical Garden

Other distinctions in Portugal
Portugal kept its total of eight green spaces awarded. This means that, alongside the gardens in Porto, the other winners were as follows:
- Guimarães City Park
- Monte Latito Gardens, in Guimarães
- Adventure Park & Ecological Trail, in Baguim do Monte
- Casa do Corim Garden, in the municipality of Maia.
The evaluation criteria
The “Green Flag Awards” aim to establish a benchmark for the good management of parks and green spaces around the world. In fact, one of their main objectives is to promote access to quality sites.
In this sense, some of the evaluation criteria considered are, for example:
- Cleanliness
- Safety
- Maintenance
- Biodiversity conservation
- Community involvement, among others.
