In Portugal, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month, so this year it falls on May 5th. This means that there is very little time left until this very special date. So we’ve decided to put together some suggestions for you to surprise the most important woman in your life.
After all, the mother is the first great heroine of the children, a companion for all hours and adventures, an example to follow. They take care of us, whether we’re kids or grown-ups, so now it’s time to repay all that love. Special dinners, wellness sessions and unique shows are just some of our tips.

Special dinner in the dark
For starters, how about an ‘out of the box’ tip? In May, on two different dates, Porto will host “Dining in the Dark”, a multi-sensory and original gastronomic experience.
The initiative takes place at Obicà Mozarrella Bar, a well-known Porto restaurant, and promises to surprise everyone and everything. Although it takes place after Mother’s Day, this is a gift to remember.
In addition, “Dining in the Dark” is 15% off with the code PTMAE15. It should be noted that, throughout the experience, you’ll be eating blindfolded to heighten your senses even more. And you, dare you!
Where: Rua da Picaria, 10
When: May 9 and 16, at 21h00
Offering flowers
Flowers are always a good idea, whatever time of year it is. However, they taste even better when given on a very special occasion, such as Mother’s Day.
In Porto, there is an extensive list of florists who work with fresh and dried flowers, personalized bouquets and, in some cases, even home delivery. A simple gift, but full of meaning.
Unplugging in a wellness haven
Well-being and adopting a healthy lifestyle is a concern that is increasingly present in everyone’s daily lives. So you could surprise your mother with a relaxing session at a spa, or even a massage.
If you’re looking specifically for a themed initiative, then there’s another alternative. For example, The Space, part of Village by BOA, on Rua do Bonjardim, is hosting a Welness Session on May 4, between 9:30 and 15:00.
The event includes a meditation and yoga practice, a showcooking and vegetarian lunch, as well as an aromatherapy session. The price is €60, but there is a Family Pack that costs €100, guaranteeing a double ticket for mother and child.

Lunch out on Mother’s Day
As already mentioned, this year Mother’s Day will be celebrated on May 5, the first Sunday of next month. So another option to consider is taking your warrior mom out for lunch.
If you don’t know where to find a themed meal, here are some suggestions:
- soMos Restaurant & Lounge, in Crown Plaza, is serving a special buffet on May 5, between 12:30 and 15:00, priced at €45.50 per person;
- Scarlett Brasserie & Wine Bar is hosting a special lunch on May 5, from 12:00 to 15:00, priced at €50 for two people (free for children up to the age of three), among other places.
Feel the passion of flamenco
Flamenco is not just a style of music, but a way of feeling the passion of Spanish culture. In Porto and the surrounding area, it’s not usual for this type of show to take place, so you should take advantage of the premiere of “We Call it Flamenco” and surprise one of the most important people in your life.
The event will take place on May 4, just before Mother’s Day, at the Hilton Porto Gaia, with two times available: at 19:30 and 21:00. The experience will feature guitarists, a singer and dancers.
Where: Hilton Porto Gaia, Rua de Serpa Pinto, 124
When: May 4th and June 29th
