Porto is internationally recognized for the quality and excellence of its green spaces, which recently led to another distinction in the Green Flag Award. And now it has just gained another lung: the Alameda de Cartes Park.
With an area of over 40,000 square meters, the new park in Campanhã was recently completed and is already accessible to the public. This space connects strategic points such as the neighborhoods of Falcão, Cerco and Lagarteiro, as well as the Campo Municipal de Campanhã, the Horta da Oliveira, the Piscina Municipal de Cartes and the Parque Oriental da Cidade.
Alameda de Cartes Park: figures and objectives
According to a press release from Porto City Council (CMP) and other previous data, these are some of the figures that, in a way, attest to the size of the project:
- An area of 40,000 square meters
- 1.5 km of footpaths
- More than a thousand native trees and shrubs
- Investment of around 2.2 million euros
The creation of this new green space aims to improve residents’ quality of life by offering a multifunctional and inclusive public park. It also seeks to develop a pedestrian circulation network, among other objectives.
The work was carried out by the municipal company GO Porto, and the city can now enjoy yet another green space, whether for walking, jogging and/or simply taking a deep breath in the open air.
