If you’re looking for exhibitions to visit in Porto this August , there’s something new waiting for you at the Tram Museum. From July 31 through October 3, you can explore the new temporary exhibition “Aqui, Massarelos,” entirely dedicated to this Porto parish.
Developed in partnership with the Massarelos Residents’ Association, the exhibition is part of the association’s 50th-anniversary celebrations and is the result of a project to collect real-life stories from those who live and have lived in the parish.
Through portraits and personal narratives, the project documents the memories and experiences that define Massarelos’ identity —its relationship with the Douro River, the historic role of the electric tram in local daily life, and the transformations the area has undergone over the decades.
What can you see at the exhibition?
Here, you’ll find different perspectives on the Massarelos community: from residents’ testimonies to accounts of the role of rail transport in the parish’s life. The collection of voices brought together aims to contribute to the preservation of the neighborhood’s cultural heritage.
A Brief Look at the Electric Trolley Museum
The Electric Trolley Museum is housed in the building of the former Massarelos Thermal Power Plant, built in 1915 and owned by STCP—Sociedade de Transportes Coletivos do Porto.
Founded in 1992, the museum houses a permanent collection of more than two dozen vehicles, including streetcars, horse-drawn carriages, animal-drawn carts, and other artifacts linked to the history of the city’s public transportation.

🎟️Ticket: Admission to the exhibition is included in the entrance ticket to the Electric Tram Museum, which costs €8 for adults and €4 for children/youth ages 6 to 18, students, and seniors aged 65 and older. Admission is free for Porto Ponto Card holders.
