This year, the April 25 holiday falls on a Saturday, but that doesn’t stop the celebrations from being filled with music, entertainment, and , of course, the traditional tribute to the anti-fascist resistance fighters.
Avenida dos Aliados serves as the epicenter of the program and the main musical highlights featuring Carlão and Galandum Galundaina, not to mention the fireworks display.
Celebrating the spirit of April

On the 52nd anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, celebrations are taking place in the city of Invicta under the motto “For April. For the Constitution. For Peace. With Dignity. With a Future.”
It is a joint initiative of the Porto City Council and the Commission for the Promotion of Popular Celebrations in Porto, which aims to bring the city together around the values of April. But shall we now take a look at the full program?
April 24 (Friday)
The kickoff for the April 25 celebrations takes place the night before, on April 24, at 10 p.m., with a concert by a major figure in Portuguese music: Carlão, known for his career with Da Weasel, but also for his solo career filled with hits.
Before midnight, the University of Porto’s Faculty of Arts Choir also takes the stage on Avenida dos Aliados to perform some of April’s greatest songs, with special emphasis on the classic “Grândola, Vila Morena” by the legendary Zeca Afonso.
After that, don’t forget to look up at the sky to watch the fireworks display, scheduled for midnight.
April 25 (Saturday)
On April 25, the morning will be dedicated to the youngest visitors with traditional games, starting at 10 a.m. at General Humberto Delgado Square.
At 2:30 p.m., the traditional Freedom Parade— which pays tribute to the anti-fascist resistance fighters—sets off from Largo de Soares dos Reis toward Avenida dos Aliados.
On the afternoon of the April 25 holiday, musical performances will be provided by Labuta (at 3:00 p.m.) and Galandum Galundaina (at 4:15 p.m.).
