Porto is at the forefront of many different sectors, including culture, as the city is home to two of the best museums in the country… and we’re not the ones saying it, but the Museum of the Year Award 2025.
What does this mean? Well, after the Soares dos Reis National Museum was distinguished in 2024, it was now the turn of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art to receive the Museum of the Year 2025 Award from the Portuguese Association of Museology (APOM).
A look at the Museum of the Year
The Museum of the Year 2025 Award was recently presented at a ceremony held at the Cineteatro Louletano in Loulé. But what is so special about the Serralves museum?
Designed by the famous architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art was inaugurated in 1999 and is part of the Serralves Foundation.
Since then, the space has ‘transformed’ itself into one of the Invicta city’s main art hubs, standing out for its remarkable collection of works by great national and international names.
Located in Serralves Park, the museum has 14 exhibition rooms spread over three floors, with a library, bookshop and auditorium.
