This is not a reopening of Tendinha dos Clérigos, the iconic venue that defined Porto’s nightlife. There will be no return to regular programming. What’s scheduled for September 19 is, in the words of founder Alberto Fonseca, simply a night when everyone can be there again—and that, in itself, is enough.
Tendinha dos Clérigos ceased regular operations in January, after more than two decades of shaping Porto’s nightlife. The farewell party filled the dance floor one last time and brought together different generations of the city. But the audience’s response that night left a clue: the connection to the venue was far from gone.
It was from that point on that a different way of approaching the end was born. Instead of closing the chapter for good, Tendinha began opening its doors on a one-off basis —moments of reunion for those who were part of the venue’s history. September marks the second time this has happened, following a first reunion that celebrated the venue’s anniversary.
“A night when we can all be there again”
For one night, the music, the dance floor, and that feeling—which is hard to explain to anyone who’s never walked through Tendinha’s doors—will return. The idea can be summed up in a phrase that the venue itself has adopted as a motto for these gatherings: “See you every now and then.” The next one is on September 19.
