Do you miss music festivals already? Although there’s still some time to go until summer, it’s true that from the north to the south of Portugal, a number of big names are starting to appear. And Greater Porto is no exception, with one of the most recent announcements sending gothic rock fans into euphoria: The Cure will be performing at North Festival 2026.
After being canceled in 2025 due to problems related to the lease of the Bessa Século XXI Stadium (in the Boavista area), the northern festival promises to make a big comeback next year. From June 5 to 7, 2026, all roads will lead to the Cidade Desportiva da Maia, chosen as the North Festival’s new home.
The Cure and their timeless songs
Formed in the 1970s in the UK, The Cure have been able to stand the test of time while remaining true to themselves. With a style markedly associated with gothic rock, the band led by the charismatic Robert Smith continues to move fans of different generations.
Hits like “Friday I’m In Love”, “Just Like Heaven” and “Boys Don’t Cry” can still be heard on the radio. But the best thing is their most recent album of originals. Released in 2024 after a 16-year hiatus, “Songs of a Lost World” won over professional critics (and others) due to the emotional density of its melodies and lyrics.
On June 7, 2026, the Brits will perform at Cidade Desportiva da Maia, offering the public a glimpse of their successful career spanning almost five decades. You can expect them to play some classics, as well as compositions from their latest work.
The new North Festival venue
In 2026, the 7th edition of the North Festival brings many new features. In addition to the confirmation of The Cure, a new venue awaits festival-goers at the Maia Central Sports Complex.
Located just a few minutes from bus stops and 13 minutes from the nearest metro station, the location is privileged. At the same time, there is a connection to a large green space, as the festival site will have a direct link to Maia City Park.
