After aurora borealis and meteors, another phenomenon is coming. Although it’s more common, that doesn’t mean it’s not equally beautiful. More specifically, we are referring to the Strawberry Moon.
If the weather improves, you’ll be able to see it at its fullest on June 22, at 2:08 a.m. in Portugal. At Porto Secreto we are passionate about the skies and all the ‘secrets’ they hide. So it’s not surprising that you see a lot of astronomy-related news around here.
A brief look at the Strawberry Moon
Although the reference to the fruit may suggest that the moon will have red or even pink tones, the truth is that the hue could be the same as the one we’re used to every day.
However, depending on the location and atmospheric conditions, the moon can appear reddish and/or even golden in some places.
The story
The name of this moon is associated with the harvest season. In this case, the origin dates back to the harvesting of wild strawberries in the Northern Hemisphere by Native American tribes.
In Europe, the June full moon is also known as the Rose Moon or Honey Moon. Whatever you want to call it, the important thing is to look at the sky and contemplate its beauty!
