We’re about to welcome 2025, so it’s a good time to look back at the most read articles of the year. Throughout 2024, we’ve been side by side with you, always looking for the best stories and places in our city (and beyond).
We want to continue this journey hand in hand with you. So, after we’ve analyzed the best photos of the year on Porto Secreto’s Instagram account. Now it’s time to review the most read articles. Let’s go?
1 – ‘Wild paradise’ 35 km from Porto
Admired by many and unknown by many, Praia de São Pedro de Maceda, in the municipality of Ovar, is one of those places worth visiting, especially during the bathing season.
Surrounded by a huge pine forest and with only one bar open in the summer, this spot is a real haven for surfers and fans of wild beaches. If you don’t know it yet, take the opportunity to go there in 2025.
2 – One of the most beautiful beaches in Europe
Located about a 1.5-hour drive from Porto, Praia do Camarido, or Praia da Foz do Minho, in Caminha, was once considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe by The Guardian.
In fact, it’s hard to find a beach with such unique beauty as this one, which stands out for its surroundings of the dense green vegetation of the Camarido National Forest and for its fine 1.2 km stretch of sand.
3 – The best activities for children
The Christmas season is special for everyone, but the younger ones in particular are delighted with the presents, lights and lots of entertainment on offer.
That’s why we’ve put together the best activities for children at Christmas… and our readers have made this the 3rd most read article of 2024.
4 – The most magical time of the year
Christmas is one of the most eagerly awaited times of the year, so it’s no surprise that the guide to the best activities for the festive season in and around Porto was one of the most read articles of the year.
5 – A natural treasure 30 minutes from Porto
Less than 30 minutes by car from Porto, you’ll find a real natural treasure: the Senhora do Salto Park. Located in Aguiar de Sousa, in the municipality of Paredes, this place is perfect for forgetting the hustle and bustle of the city.
Nestled between high mountains and with the River Sousa running through it, there is the possibility of practicing mountain sports, enjoying a family picnic or just meditating, in a kind of self-reflection with the surrounding nature.
6 – Discovering the ‘Island of the Gods’
The most uninspired of writers and poets would surely find the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ when confronted with the unparalleled beauty of the Vigo estuary landscape, in Galicia (Spain).
Known as the ‘Islands of the Gods’, the Cíes are a veritable Eden on land. Because of their proximity, we wrote a guide to this holiday destination, resulting in one of the most read articles of the year.
7 – Eat and repeat at will
If you like buffet restaurants, then you have to visit New Wok. Located in the Prelada area of Porto, here you can eat (and repeat) at affordable prices.
The decor is pleasant and welcoming, and there are dishes for all tastes, including vegetarian options.
8 – The beach with water at 25 degrees
With the arrival of the cold winter days, we seem to miss summer even more, don’t we? So take this opportunity to remember the ‘heat’ and the long days ‘toasting’ in the sun with 8th place in our top most read articles of 2024.
Located less than an hour’s drive from Porto, Praia da Marinha da Noeirinha, in Aveiro, has an average temperature of 25 degrees, a scenario that caught the attention of our readers.
9 – Porto’s biggest music festival
Primavera Sound Porto needs no introduction, as it is one of the best music festivals in Portugal (and beyond).
For 2025, the line-up includes big names, but also emerging talents. So if you haven’t bought your ticket yet, take advantage of it before it’s too late.
10 – Fantastic places near Porto
We’re number one fans of Porto, but every now and then it’s good to explore the surrounding area and/or other cities.
So, in 2024, we set off to discover more villages, monuments and natural treasures and put it all together in an itinerary full of fantastic places.
11 – The typical expressions of Porto (and the North)
Before you go ‘laureate the stone’, we end this retrospective with an article dedicated to “expressions that only those from Porto (and/or the North) understand”.
If you’re from here, many of these words and expressions are nothing new, but if you’re visiting Porto, this guide could be very useful. Either way, it’ s always worth remembering!
In 2025, we hope to have many more successes like these. And we hope you’ll make them your favorites for (re)discovering our noble and ever-loyal city of Invicta.
Happy New Year!
