The Porto district is under a yellow warning today due to the forecast of rain or showers, which may at times be heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms. According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), as reported by RTP, the warning has been in effect since 6 a.m., and ten more mainland districts will be included throughout the day.
What to Expect in Porto
In the Porto district, the yellow alert—for rainfall and thunderstorms—has been in effect since 6 a.m . and will remain in effect until noon. According to the IPMA, conditions are favorable for rainfall accumulations of between 10 and 20 mm per hour and wind gusts of between 70 and 90 km/h. The same timeframe (until noon) applies to Aveiro; in Viana do Castelo and Braga, also under a warning since 6 a.m., the warning remains in effect until 3 p.m.
The remaining affected districts
Starting at 9 a.m., the yellow alert was extended to include Vila Real and Viseu, in addition to Lisbon, Leiria, and Coimbra —in the latter three, the alert remains in effect until 3 p.m. Starting at noon, when the alert ends in Porto, Bragança and Guarda will in turn be placed under a yellow alert, valid until 6 p.m.
What to expect for the rest of the day
According to the IPMA, the day will be marked by periods of rain or showers—at times heavy in the North and Center—strong winds along the western coast and in the highlands, and a slight drop in the high temperature.
