Starting this Thursday, October 1, tourist transportation in Porto will stop at different locations. The Porto City Council is changing the pickup and drop-off points for passengers, with the greatest impact felt in the Downtown area and the Historic Center. The changes apply to large passenger vehicles operating on an occasional basis and vehicles with a capacity of up to nine seats, known as tuk-tuks.
Large passenger vehicles
The stop on Rua do Dr. Ferreira da Silva will be discontinued, and the current stop at Campo dos Mártires da Pátria will remain. New stops will be added on Rua de Gonçalo Cristóvão, Rua Tareija Vaz de Altaro, and at Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, next to the courthouse.
Outside the Restricted Zone, there will be new stops on Avenida da Boavista, near Castelo do Queijo, on Rua de D. João de Castro, on Rua de Júlio Dinis, on Via Futebol Clube do Porto, and at Largo da Lapa. All other existing stops will remain in place.

For these vehicles, the Ribeira stop will be deactivated and the Clérigos stop will be removed. The new stops will be on Rua de Ferreira da Silva, at Largo Actor Dias, on Rua de Alexandre Herculano, in Lapa, next to Castelo do Queijo, and at Estádio do Dragão. The stops at Passeio Alegre and S. Lázaro will remain in place.
How Access to the Restricted Zone Works
Due to heavy daily pressure on the transportation system, the circulation of large passenger vehicles operating on an occasional basis is prohibited in the Restricted Zone—which covers Downtown and the Historic Center— between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Outside these hours, access depends on the time of day:
- Between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., on weekdays and weekends, advance notice is sufficient. No authorization is required.
- Between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., it is mandatory to request authorization to access the restricted zone for unauthorized tourist circuits. The request can be made on the Resident Portal or in person at the Resident Services Office.
The Porto City Council recommends submitting the request as far in advance as possible, ideally 20 business days before the scheduled date. Updated information on the Restricted Zone is available in the mobility section of the City of Porto’s interactive map platform and on the Citizen Portal.
