When daylight saving time arrives and the days get longer, you just want to make the most of the best outdoor activities: picnics in the most beautiful green spaces, sipping a glass of fino on a terrace, or even watching a movie. You read that right: outdoor movie screenings are about to return to Greater Porto, and this time with an unbeatable view of the Douro River.
From Lisbon straight to Vila Nova de Gaia, after nearly nine seasons in the Portuguese capital, Cine Society has decided to expand its outdoor movie screenings (complete with food and drinks) to Northern Portugal. From May to October, 92 screenings are scheduled at the WOW venue, as part of a recently announced partnership.
“A unique setting”

In a statement sent to Porto Secreto, Cine Society highlights the unique setting that WOW—Vila Nova de Gaia’s cultural quarter—offers the public, emphasizing its unmistakable and hard-to-replicate atmosphere .
Conquering Greater Porto

Cine Society was founded in 2017 by Chris Wood and Phil Ilic. What began as a weekly event grew to the point of “taking over” several iconic venues in Lisbon. In 2025, in the city of the “Seven Hills,” the initiative’s success was reflected in the attendance of around 25,000 viewers over more than 350 hours of cinema.
Now, the plan is to replicate the formula in Greater Porto. However , at the moment we don’t yet know the full details of the schedule, nor any information about tickets. But we promise to stay tuned for all the latest news on yet another open-air cinema initiative.
