The Quinta da Gruta Municipal Swimming Pool Complex, in Castêlo da Maia, reopened on June 13 for another summer season and remains one of the region’s most popular destinations for escaping the heat without leaving the Porto Metropolitan Area. Surrounded by gardens, educational vegetable gardens, and nature, the complex combines outdoor pools with an atmosphere that is much more peaceful than the beaches along the northern coast on the hottest days.
What is the Quinta da Gruta Complex?

Located in the parish of Castêlo da Maia, about a 15- to 20-minute drive from downtown Porto, the complex has two treated-water pools: one for adults and another for children. Surrounding the pools are lawns, gardens, educational vegetable gardens, and an environmental education center, making the space an ideal option both for those looking for a place to swim and for families wanting to spend a day outdoors together.
