It’s official: the historic Line 18 tram is back! Following the completion of construction on the Porto Metro’s Pink Line in the Cordoaria area, the line connecting Passeio Alegre to Carmo has resumed its normal route, which had been on a modified schedule since 2021.
The return of a historic route

With this reintroduction, Line 18 returns to its original route, once again terminating at Carmo. The line continues to follow its original route from Passeio Alegre to the Viriato stop on Rua da Restauração, with the Parada Leitão, Hospital de Santo António, and Carmo stops now reinstated ; the latter resumes its role as the starting and ending point of service.
This marks the restoration of a route that was interrupted in 2021 and whose service had been restricted since 2023. It restores this iconic route’s connection to the network, directly serving one of the city’s most significant areas in terms of heritage and tourism, home to the Clérigos Tower , the University of Porto Rectory, and the Lello Bookstore.
According to the STCP, between January and May of this year , Line 18 carried approximately 69,000 passengers, a figure that reflects the importance of this service for urban mobility and for connecting to some of Porto’s main points of interest.
