Some journeys are more valuable for what they carry than for the destination they reach. The VougaHistoric Train returns this summer with nine dates between July 4 and August 29, aboard historic railcars with decades of history on their wheels and the Aveiro countryside visible from the window.
From Aveiro to Macinhata do Vouga, on Saturdays

The route runs, as usual, between Aveiro and Macinhata do Vouga, with a stop in Águeda. It runs on Saturdays, departing from Aveiro at 1:45 p.m. and arriving in Macinhata do Vouga at 2:59 p.m. The return trip departs from Macinhata at 4:40 p.m., passing through Águeda at 5:02 p.m., and arriving in Aveiro at 8:07 p.m.
The Only Narrow-Gauge Line in Service in Portugal
The Vouga Line is the only narrow-gauge railway still in operation in Portugal. A railway rarity that, in and of itself, justifies the trip. CP’s historic train takes full advantage of this unique status to offer an experience that combines railway heritage, culture, and the local landscape, in the spirit of local tourism that has attracted visitors from various regions.
Railway Museum, Regional Fair, and AgitÁgueda
The program for each trip includes more than just the journey itself. In Macinhata do Vouga, passengers are welcomed with onboard entertainment, a complimentary Águeda pastry, access to a market featuring regional products, and a guided tour of the Macinhata do Vouga Railway Museum.
At the stop in Águeda, there is a guided tour of the city’s historic center. During the month of July, the tour coincides with AgitÁgueda, an urban art festival that transforms the city’s streets with installations and artistic interventions, making each July outing especially appealing.
Tickets Are Now on Sale
