In summer, one of the favorite activities for kids and adults alike is to spend long afternoons by the sea. Pay attention, though, as not all places are guarded or recommended for diving. However, at least for the beaches of Labruge (Vila do Conde) and Angeiras Norte (Matosinhos),the bathing ban has already been lifted.
According to the newspaper Económico, the lifting of the ban on the aforementioned beaches was announced this Monday, July 14, in a statement from the Ministry of the Environment. However, according to the same source, ” close and continuous monitoring” will be maintained.

Why has bathing been discouraged?
According to information from Económico and Jornal de Notícias, the beaches of Labruge and Angeiras Norte, in Greater Porto, have been closed.
On Friday, July 11, the date of the ban, the Portuguese Environment Agency warned of:
(…) A significant change in the water quality of the River Wave, presumably associated with the discharge of wastewater from the Modivas Manufacturing Unit in Vila do Conde.”

Improvement, but close monitoring
However, despite the improvement, the press release from the Ministry of the Environment, quoted by the newspaper Económico, stresses that the situation will be closely monitored “in order to safeguard the safety of users“.
