There is an almost umbilical connection between the city of Porto and the world of wine. So it’s no wonder that several Porto restaurants explore this connection when creating their own concept—like ODE. Located in Ribeira do Porto, in a building with over 300 years of history, the venue is celebrating its 15th anniversary with the same number of wine-pairing dinners throughout the year. And the first one is coming up this Thursday, May 21.
What to expect from the wine dinners?
With a wine cellar housing over 650 wine labels— 400 domestic and 150 international— the ODE restaurant was founded in 2011 with the aim of showcasing the best the country has to offer in terms of wines and traditional Portuguesecuisine.
Imbued with the same spirit that led to its creation, the restaurant’s management is now launching a series of 15 exclusive wine dinners limited to 15 people, priced at €150 per person. These special dinners will feature some of the best national wine producers:
- Anselmo Mendes, on May 21
- Symington, June 18
- Alves de Sousa, on July 24
Highlights from the menu
The menu features slow-fermented bread, Avintes cornbread, and butter from the Azores (€5). To properly kick off the dining experience, appetizers range, for example, from Sado River oysters (€16) to Porto-style tripe (€14).
For the main courses, the menu continues to draw inspiration from traditional Portuguese recipes featuring flavors from land and sea, such as octopus rice (€34) or cabidela rice (€32), as well as roast beef with fries, beef broth, and cream (€34), among other options, including vegetarian choices .
For those with a sweet tooth, the desserts follow a classic style that rarely disappoints, such as Avó Dulce’s pudding (€12), chocolate mousse with almonds and orange compote (€14), or sponge cake with Serra da Estrela cheese ice cream (€14).
