Forget traditional museums. On the riverside of Porto, with a privileged view of the Douro River, one of the city’s best-kept (and preserved) treasures has just opened its doors to the public. After 236 years behind closed doors, it is now possible to visit one of the most exclusive buildings in Invicta — the Feitoria Inglesa.
With an imposing granite façade, access to number 8 Rua do Infante D. Henrique was, for many generations, by invitation only. But 2026 marks the end of an era: now, Porto residents and tourists can finally enjoy guided tours, immersing themselves in the history of Port Wine.
The heart of British trade

Completed in 1790, the Feitoria Inglesa has since been the headquarters of the British Association, established in 1811. Here, between gala dinners and solemn meetings, important decisions related to the commercialization of Port Wine were (and are) made .
What to visit at the Feitoria Inglesa?

There is much to explore inside the stunning Feitoria Inglesa; observing every nook and cranny is like a journey into the past, as the feeling that time has stood still here dominates the air. Among the highlights of the visit are:
- The iconic Ballroom — where the elegance of the 18th century still echoes
- The historic double dining rooms
- The underground wine cellar
- The private library filled with countless books, maps, and rare documents
One of the most impressive artifacts in the Feitoria Inglesa collection is a guest book signed by officers of the Anglo-Portuguese army of the Duke of Wellington after the liberation of Invicta in 1809.
The experience in an exclusive environment
Visits to this century-old building are available in two formats: a guided morning tour with Vintage Port tasting; and self-guided afternoon tours with multimedia resources.
