To celebrate the unique Irish spirit and the iconic St. Patrick’s Day, and since it is impossible to travel by plane, just cross the Douro and immerse yourself in the St. Patrick’s Weekend Market to experience this revelry up close.
On March 13 and 14, Armazém 22, in Vila Nova de Gaia, will serve as the stage for a complete immersion in Irish culture, offering craft beers, food, music, and sports, as well as flash tattoos and a market with vintage and second-hand items.
A toast with an Irish accent
No St. Patrick’s Day celebration would be complete without Guinness. But this is not the only brand of beer on offer, as there are more Irish and Scottish labels waiting for you at the St. Patrick’s Weekend Market. In addition, the drinks menu will feature a selection of Portuguese beers and craft ciders.
To accompany the drinks, the first edition of this event includes a food court with chicken wings, onion rings, bifanas (pork sandwiches ), and even a special edition of éclairs, created exclusively for the St. Patrick’s Weekend Market by Leitaria da Quinta do Paço.
From U2 to the Six Nations Tournament
If you’ve ever been to an Irish pub, you know that the Irish spirit of celebration is not only reflected in food and drink, but also in music and sports.
For this reason, and to “liven up the crowd,” the St. Patrick’s Weekend Market presents a musical program designed with the event in mind. On March 13, U2— the legendary Irish band—will be honored by The Fly in a tribute concert .
On March 14, you can watch one of the most exciting rugby competitions in the world: the Six Nations Championship, with the vibrant Ireland vs. Scotland match on the agenda. To end the night on a high note, there will be pop rock covers by the band Mr. Gang.
Flash tattoos and market
The program also has two surprises in store: a flash tattoo area and a small vintage and second-hand market.
