April is synonymous with longer days, but also with celebrating Freedom Day. So, in addition to the events on Avenida dos Aliados (on April 24 and 25), you can embrace the spirit of the Carnation Revolution with another free initiative: “Abril Febril.”
Organized by the Porto Municipal Gallery, “Abril Febril” returns to bring music to the Acoustic Shell in the Crystal Palace Gardens on April 25 , starting at 6 p.m. The lineup features a series of musical projects that take us on a journey from Galician sounds to Gypsy traditions.
The “Abril Febril” program
With the aim of rediscovering traditional music in multiple forms, embracing the spirit of April 1974, the program is multicultural, including bagpipes, as well as the energy of funaná and kuduro.
Galician artist Carme López opens the event with a presentation exploring new possibilities for the bagpipes. This will be followed by a performance by Emmy Curl, who will present her latest work, “Pastoral” —a tribute to the cultural heritage of Portuguese folklore.
With the Fidju Kitxora collective , the audience is invited to journey through the warmth of African sounds. Finally, the last concert will be performed by La Familia Gitana, a group of young musicians from the Fim do Mundo neighborhood in Cascais, united by blood ties but also by pride in the Gypsy tradition.
