More than exchanging presents, Christmas is the perfect time to create new memories with those we love the most, be they family or friends. That’s why, despite the low temperatures, it’s a good time to get to know and explore new destinations. For those who enjoy contact with nature combined with the magic of Christmas, there’s a place to discover in Alto Minho: the Cascata dos Sonhos.
Located in the Fojo Waterfall Walkways, in the parish of Lara, in the municipality of Monção, more than 120 kilometers from Porto, from December 1 until January 13, 2026, the so-called Cascata dos Sonhos promises to attract many visitors of all ages. Lights, animal figures, centuries-old mills and more, here the magic of Christmas reaches another dimension, in tune with a bucolic environment, where you can hear the serenity of the rhythm of the flowing water.
What will you find at the Cascata dos Sonhos?

Here, there are no theme parks, no trees and no giant Santa Claus. In fact, the enchanting scenery is the main attraction. About 500 meters long, the route is circular to avoid confusion and ensure that visitors get the most out of the experience.
Between a walkway of ramps, platforms and stairs, the journey to the Cascata dos Sonhos is full of Christmas ornaments, such as figures and Christmas lights, not forgetting the centuries-old windmills, one of which houses an incredible nativity scene.
At the entrance, there’s a small Christmas market with local products and several songs typical of the festive season, which contribute to creating a completely immersive atmosphere. Due to the distance from Porto, we recommend combining this visit with other experiences to get the most out of it.
This year, the Cascata dos Sonhos is open every day from 5pm to midnight. Entry is a symbolic €1 for children aged 15 and over, while young people and children under that age pay nothing. Do you know where you’re going this Christmas?
