They say that after the storm comes the calm. With the sun shining and the opportunity to replenish our vitamin D, some news is also beginning to arrive that hints at the relaxed atmosphere of spring, such as the return of the Porto Camellia Exhibition.
The initiative, which celebrates one of Porto’s most iconic flowers , will take place on March 7 and 8 in one of the city’s most stunning venues— the Palácio da Bolsa. In addition to the exhibition, the program for the 30th edition includes musical performances, workshops, and other surprises.
Celebrating a century-old flower

This century-old flower is a common sight in several private and public gardens in the city, blooming in places such as São Roque Park, the Botanical Garden, and the Crystal Palace Gardens, among others. Now, it will be celebrated by dozens of producers, collectors, and enthusiasts.
At the 30th Porto Camellia Exhibition, thousands of camellias will be on display, competing for the following awards: Best Camellia, Best Camellia of Portuguese Origin, and Best Table Decoration/Floral Arrangement.
What to expect from the Porto Camellia Exhibition?

For two days, the Porto Camellia Exhibition will promote activities for all ages, including various shows such as: “La Traviata – The Opera of Camellias,” by Ópera de Bolso (March 7, at 5 p.m.), and “Sketch Flores – Épera à Moda do Porto,” by Quarteto Contratempus (March 8, at 5 p.m.). In addition, the program includes concerts by Focus Sax Quartet ( March 7, at 4 p.m.) and Altos do Bairro, dedicated to early music (March 8, at 11:30 a.m.).
The Palácio da Bolsa will also serve as the setting for several workshops, such as the camellia reproduction workshop, run by the Municipal Nursery (March 7, at 2 p.m.); the workshop on the “art of koredama,” by the Fios Suspensos collective (March 7, at 3 p.m.), among others.
If you feel like visiting the event, admission is free, and the doors will be open on March 7 (Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.) and March 8 (Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
