It’s no secret that the francesinhas dominate attention (and stomachs) in Porto and the surrounding area. For example, in September, there are two gastronomic events dedicated to this delicacy (with free entry). However, the ‘news’ doesn’t stop there. In the village of Sobrado (municipality of Valongo) a record was broken.
After all, there are records in the world of sport, so why can’t there be one related to francesinhas? But we’ll tell you all the details in a moment. More specifically, on August 31 (Saturday) more than 3,000 francesinhas were served, in a gigantic dinner that lasted several hours.
According to the Jornal de Notícias, the mega dinner took place in the Bugiada and Mouriscada Square, and the aim was to break the previous record, dated June 30, when more than 2,000 were sold francesinhas.
According to the same source, at the initiative, organized by the São João do Sobrado Festival Committee, a total of 3276 francesinhas were sold, which means that the June record was broken. Despite the feat, the organization was unable to enter this milestone in the Guinness Book of Records, due to the 11,000 euros requested for the negotiations alone.
