The Christmas season is synonymous with lights, magic and lots of joy. Children and adults alike ‘rave’ about the typical attractions of the season. In a month when dreams soar, Christmas trees take center stage.
Like our guide to the Christmas markets, we wanted to extend our themed itinerary to Greater Porto. So if you love photographing, or simply admiring, all the decorative details, then this article is for you.
Although it’s not a definitive itinerary of all the Christmas trees you can find out there, this article brings together some of our favorites and most instagrammable. The order is random, but the beauty is common to all!

Avenida dos Aliados
Over 30 meters high and 15 meters in diameter, the traditional Christmas tree on Avenida dos Aliados is always one of the city’s main Christmas attractions; and this year is no exception.
The lights will remain on until January 6, 2025. But until then, the tree promises to continue to be the center of attention for all Porto residents and tourists. After all, who wouldn’t want to take a photo against this magical backdrop?

Shopping Cidade do Porto
Shopping Cidade do Porto, also known as Shopping do Bom Sucesso, is also a Christmas classic thanks to its usual tree.
Located in the Boavista area, it ‘s worth going there to see the decorations and take some photos.

“Largest Christmas Tree in Portugal”
In this list of some of the most beautiful Christmas trees in Greater Porto, we couldn’t fail to mention the “Largest Christmas Tree in Portugal“, in Ermesinde.
Over 50 meters high, this is one of the main Christmas attractions in the municipality of Valongo (part of the Porto Metropolitan Area).

Gaia Vila Natal
Until December 31, Gaia Vila Natal promises to entertain kids and adults alike, with a French carousel, Santa’s House, Santa’s train and, of course, the always fun ice rink.
Set up between the Civic Center and Praça, at the back of the Paços do Concelho building, it’s also worth stopping by to get a closer look at one of the most beautiful Christmas trees in Greater Porto.

“WOW, it’s Christmas”, in the Gaia quarter
The Christmas program at WOW (World of Wine), Vila Nova de Gaia ‘s cultural quarter, is diverse and will continue until January 6 , 2025, with many attractions for kids and adults.
There’s a carousel, Santa’s House and, of course, a huge Christmas tree. At 13 meters high, this is definitely one of those that looks good in any photo. Especially given the view of the Douro River!

Christmas tree in Maia
Maia is one of the municipalities in Greater Porto that shines brightest this Christmas. The festive season is celebrated with many decorations and attractions.
The Christmas tree is undoubtedly one of the most Instagrammable decorative elements. However, the center of Maia also surprises for other reasons, such as:
- The Ice Rink;
- The Parisian Carousel;
- And Santa’s House, among others.

The magic of Christmas shines brightly throughout Greater Porto; and Matosinhos, which is just next door, deserves a special mention.
As well as its special program, which includes a recreation of Santa’s Village, Matosinhos Town Hall is giving us “a giant Christmas tree, measuring around 30 meters”.

NorteShopping is a must for many people, whether it’s for Christmas shopping or simply to enjoy the attractions of this festive season.
This year, the Christmas tree is more beautiful than ever. At the same time, there’s a dance floor, mirror balls and a maze to delight the whole family!

Alameda Shop & Spot
Located near the emblematic Estádio do Dragão, Alameda Shop & Spot is one of the largest shopping centers in this part of Porto.
What’s more, every year the Christmas tree and the seasonal decorations make you want to keep the flashbulbs on.
