Located in the Boavista area, Palacete Severo is beginning a new phase in its ‘life’. After being abandoned for a long time, the building of historical interest has now been reborn as a boutique hotel by a French group.
The new hotel aims to establish itself as “a hidden refuge in the center of Porto”, where the connection with the local heritage and culture is privileged. There’s a garden, outdoor swimming pool, spa, art gallery and signature cuisine.

Palacete Severo: a look at the past & rehabilitation
At the beginning of the 20th century, Palacete Severo was designed by Ricardo Severo, architect, engineer, archaeologist and writer, and is located on the street that now bears his name.
Conceived as an example of the “Portuguese house”, with the help of his wife, Francisca Dumont, the project took on very specific contours, such as the ceilings adorned with gold and the stained glass windows.
This is a place of timeless love for Ricardo Severo. A place of love for art and heritage. The essence of Ricardo Severo lives on in the soul of this house. It’s in the paintings, the concepts, the ceramics, the gracefulness of the statues, the colors and the light that enters through the stained glass windows,” says the hotel’s owner in a press release.
In this rehabilitation process, the intertwining of history with contemporaneity is one of the main premises. As such, Palacete Severo has been meticulously restored to reflect the innovative spirit of its creator, but also to acquire a touch of modernity.
Quality cuisine
In addition to the hotel offer with 20 rooms and suites (344€), the space is committed to the signature cuisine of chef Tiago Bonito – awarded a Michelin star for his work at the Largo do Paço restaurant at the Casa da Calçada Hotel (Amarante).
At Palacete Severo, chef Tiago Bonito will be in charge of the Éon restaurant and Bistrô Severo, with the aim of positioning the latter as an informal, creative space with Mediterranean cuisine.
An art haven
Another facet of Palacete Severo is its commitment to the art world. What does this mean? Well, the building incorporates an art gallery.
In fact, until November 9, there is an exhibition entitled “In Nature, with Nature” with works by various artists and curated by Raquel Guerra.
Other features of Palacete Severo
One of the features of the new boutique hotel is the Severo Spa, which marks the entry of Olivier Claire (a pioneer in natural skin care) into Portugal.
However, the historic building doesn’t stop there. There’s a garden, an outdoor swimming pool, a gym, a library and an events room. “A hidden refuge” for those who want to visit Porto!
