As the Christmas season approaches, all we can think about is chocolates, right? Tablets, bonbons, truffles and brigadeiros fill our imaginations. After all, we like them in all shapes and forms.
For all the sweet tooths in and around Porto, here’s a brief list of some stores where you can find artisanal, traditional and more innovative products. The order is random, but full of flavor.
Table Of Contents
Leónidas
Leónidas is a century-old Belgian brand that currently has several locations across the north and south of Portugal. Of course, Porto is one of the cities that is home to their delicious sweets.
With a wide variety of chocolates, here you can find bars, dragees and bonbons, among many other sweets. In the Invicta city, the space is in the Boavista area. Have you ever been this way?
Rua de Júlio Dinis, 926
Glad
Glad is one of the most recently opened stores in Porto, between Lordelo do Ouro and Boavista. There, you’ll find a kind of ‘laboratory’, where chocolate is tested and made every day.
The cocoa is of the highest quality and comes directly from countries such as Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Madagascar, among others.
After a lot of work, the result is presented in the form of at least eight varieties of artisan chocolate. The menu includes bars with almonds from the Alentejo, raspberries, sea salt from the Algarve… in short, creativity knows no bounds!
📍Rua de Rodrigues Sampaio 162
Dubon
We recently visited Dubon Chocolate Bar, located a few meters above Morriña (the famous Galician tavern in Porto), and we couldn’t resist including it in our list of favorites.
In this store, love for the world of chocolates is reflected in every detail, from preparation to tasting. Run by a young Israeli couple, Dubon offers a true chocolate experience.
Here, there are sweets, boxes of chocolates, tablets, dragees, cocktails and even Port wine. A special spot with the best “Dubon” chocolates !
Rua dos Mártires da Liberdade, 100
Equador Chocolate Shop
Born in the city of Porto, Chocolataria Equador is now a renowned brand of handmade chocolates. Its menu includes a variety of flavors and aromas that you really have to try.
From bars to truffles and shards, Chocolataria Equador’s specialties are available in its physical stores in Invicta:
- Rua de Sá da Bandeira, 637
- Rua das Flores, 298
- Rua Sousa Viterbo, 103
However, you can also place your orders online, especially if you’re thinking of giving them as a gift.
Arcádia
Any self-respecting Porto resident knows that Arcádia, one of the country’s most famous brands, was born in our city. In fact, this historic store opened its doors in 1933 and has been owned by the Bastos family ever since.
With several stores in operation, you can also place your orders online. But in any case, don’t miss out on the irresistible, traditional Port wine bonbons.

Vinte Vinte Café Flores
This is the most recent space on our list. With its doors open in Rua das Flores since June, the Vinte Vinte brand has crossed the Douro River and arrived in Porto with its own place.
The Porto spot is a hybrid between a store and a café. Tablets, chocolates, cakes and hot chocolate are all made with original chocolate. The store is open every day from 9:00 to 20:00.
R. das Flores, 206
Pieces of Cocoa
Before we finish this list, it’s time to cross the D. Luís I Bridge and head to Gaia. After all, this is where you’ll find Pedaços de Cacau, a brand specializing in handmade dark chocolate.
Tablets, bonbons or eggs, you’ll find this and much more at Pedaços de Cacau. Do you already feel like devouring chocolate? Nhom nhom!
