With the countdown to spring, more and more corners and nooks are filling with color in Porto. From elegant tulips to subtle magnolias, the city is transforming into a veritable garden. However, Invicta’s green spaces are not the only spring attraction worthy of our attention.
At this time of year, Greater Porto also serves as the backdrop for iconic flower shows. From the ‘flower of the city’ Invicta to the stunning orchids, this month there are two remarkable events that promise to impress any plant enthusiast; and one of them is taking place this weekend. Shall we find out more?
Porto Camellia Exhibition

From March 7 to 8, the city of Porto celebrates its emblematic flower at the Palácio da Bolsa, transforming the national monument into a veritable garden. The 29th edition of the event stands out for its competition to choose the “Best Camellia” and the “Best Camellia of Portuguese Origin,” bringing together dozens of collectors and producers who present rare varieties of the “Rose of Japan.”
The program extends beyond the floral exhibition with cultural entertainment, music, and workshops dedicated to cultivation. The Porto City Council and the Portuguese Camellia Association promote this event as the highlight of the flowering season, taking advantage of the Palace’s 19th-century architecture to frame the artistic arrangements.
Visitors can also explore the flower market. Free admission allows access to one of the most luxurious interiors in Portugal, usually reserved for paid visits, throughout the weekend.
International Orchid Exhibition

From March 20 to 22, the 15th edition of what is considered the largest celebration of orchids in Portugal is back in Greater Porto, this year with a new location at the Multipurpose Pavilion in Gondomar. The Portuguese Orchid Association (A.P.O.) brings together rare and exotic specimens from national and international exhibitors from countries such as Brazil, Ecuador, Spain, and Taiwan in the same space.
The event serves as a showcase for biodiversity, where you can admire private collections and purchase unique specimens directly from the producers. In addition to orchids, visitors will find other tropical plants, such as bonsais, succulents, and bromeliads, in a venue with a larger exhibition area and natural light to enhance the experience.
The official program includes specialized lectures on the cultivation of these plants and the traditional competition that awards prizes to the best orchids in bloom. With easy access and on-site parking, the exhibition has established itself as the annual meeting place for collectors and botany enthusiasts .
Mark your calendar and let yourself be inspired by the colors of spring: which of these exhibitions will you visit first in Greater Porto?
